I’m about to start a big painting and I want the skin to appear to be in the moonlight, so I’ve done this colour study to see if a different technique will work. On a burnt umber imprimatura (coloured ground) I’ve done a grisaille, which you can still see in the face. Then I worked in skin colour and hair on top of that. I don’t like it. This ain’t gonna work. Good thing I did a colour study first before digging into the final painting!

I have just a few details and touch-ups but it’s so so so close to being done! Finally.

WIP: colour study for skin in the moonlight underway…

WIP: I’m going to have some sari fabric studies up at my friend’s business for the West Seattle Art Walk next month. Most of the fabric studies I have done are small, so I’m working on a bigger piece to help fill the walls. Once this is dry, I’ll paint the pattern.

I had a great photo shoot with the lovely Patrick Daniels last night for a painting that I’ve been thinking a lot about for nearly nine months. It’s time to give birth to this thing!

Wow. I really thought that I would have had finished this painting by now, but the migraines are really holding me back. I pushed through a migraine and got a little grisaille done on this figure.

I was really looking forward to painting this vest! I don’t know why, but some things are more fun to paint than others.
