Grisaille

I have done a grisaille today on this commissioned portrait with just black paint – well, it’s not so much a proper grisaille because that would also include white to give more of a grey scale. I find that adding white makes the skin look too grey and I prefer to have more warmth in skin tones, so I make the white of the canvas be my light.
